RANDY PIPER BIOGRAPHY
Guitarist. Singer. Songwriter. Showman.
A hugely influential rock and metal guitarist, Randy Piper has been seen and heard by millions in concert, on MTV and VH1 music videos and has sold millions of recordings worldwide. He is an American musician best known as the co-founder and original guitarist of the legendary rock and heavy metal band W.A.S.P. Randy and W.A.S.P pushed the boundaries of live performance and became the standard by which all metal shows thereafter were judged.
In addition to W.A.S.P., he has formed several other renowned bands, including Randy Piper's Animal, Kings Horses and Where Angels Suffer. He has released five studio albums, countless singles, and has appeared in many music videos, two feature films, and has received nine Gold Records in five countries.
In 1979, Blackie Lawless and Piper started working, harmonizing and creating together in Piper’s Magnum Opus studio in Buena Park, California. The band was first called "Sister" and then "Circus Circus" before they arrived at the name W.A.S.P.
In 1984, they signed a three million dollar deal with Capitol records, the largest record deal that had been offered at that time. On August 17, of '84, they released their first self-titled album “W.A.S.P.” which was followed by their second release “The Last Command” in November of 1985. Both albums showcased Piper’s talents as a guitarist, singer and showman. Randy's incredible guitar virtuosity and stage presence was on display during worldwide tours with KISS, Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath, performing their hits: "I Wanna Be Somebody", "Love Machine", "Wild Child" and "Blind In Texas".
Both albums “W.A.S.P.” self titled and “The Last Command” has ranked in the top 100 Billboard Chart, VHI 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs: I Wanna Be Somebody #84, Best Metal Album of the Year 1984: W.A.S.P. #8 and 110 Weeks on the UK Heavy Metal Chart: Animal (F*** Like A Beast).
“Randy Piper’s Animal” project produced 3 albums. The first release was "900 Lb. Steam" on Perris Records in the early 1990’s, followed by "Violent New Breed", which was released on Swedish label Diesel and Glory, Deaf and Dumb records in 2007. The third CD, "Virus", was released in Madrid, Spain 2008, on Locomotive Records.
Piper’s current stage show includes the W.A.S.P. hits: Wild Child, I Wanna Be Somebody, Love Machine and Blind In Texas plus the hits from his “Randy Piper’s Animal" output: Morning After, Eye of the Storm, Cardiac Arrest, and Judgment Day. The Randy Piper’s Animal songs are raw, powerful rock and metal songs, with industrial influence combined with the primitive in-your-face feel of the early W.A.S.P. recordings.
Randy Piper is a legendary artist who continues to create music, thrill his fans and influence countless metal guitarists across the globe.
